XO BBHQ posted in the group 24 Squadron SAAF
This must be one of the most beautiful and spectacular photos ever taken of a South African Air Force #Buccaneer. The photo was taken on 17 September 1985 while the Buccaneer formation, returning from a sortie during Ops #Weldmesh, was crossing the Okavango river with the setting sun in the background.
This photo was on the cover of Brig-Gen Dick Lord’s book “From Fledgling to Eagle” which covered the SAAF’s border war from 1966 to 1989.
Brig-Gen Lord stated that the Buccaneer was the best aircraft in the SAAF inventory for an African Bush War.
